Webinar: China-EU Health Cooperation Dialogue
Objective:
The SENET project intends to facilitate dialogue between Chinese and European research and innovation entities to increase participation in health collaborative projects. China-EU Health Cooperation Dialogue aims to exchange good practices from the EU and Chinese health researchers and develop policy recommendations for supporting future Sino-European research collaborations from understanding, preventing, and managing global health challenges such as pandemics, chronic disease prevention and control, and the obstacles and impetus to the international development and promotion of traditional Chinese medicine.
Jointly funded by China-EU co-funding mechanism, locally sponsored by China Center for International Science and Technology Exchange, Beijing Association of Science and Technology, this event will be co-organized by both European and Chinese partners of SENET Sino-European Health Networking Hub, respectively Development Center for Medical Science and Technology, National Health Commission of P.R.C, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, the secretariat of Chinese Health Experts Committee of Beijing Haizhi Program(S&T Linkedin) on the Chinese side and STEINBEIS 2I GMBH, SPI, AICEP Portugal, CRG, EVI, etc. on the European side, and ENRICH in China. Health speakers from both Europe and China will address hot topics of common concerns from both policy and industry perspective to explore solution to global health challenges.

About the Speakers:
Dr. Shanhong Mao
Mao Shanhong serves as deputy director of BDA (Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area), responsible for healthcare business sector. He is an adjunct professor and PhD supervisor at Biomedical Engineering School of Chinese Capital Medical University, also serves as Chief Counsellor and Visiting Fellow of Chinese Academy of Inspection and Quarantine Sciences.
With more than 30 years of experiences in healthcare innovation and business development, Dr. Mao served as Global Head of Mfg. Science and Technology at Alcon (Novartis). He also held various of executive positions in fortune 500 companies e.g. Bausch&Lomb and 3M. His expertise spans pharmaceuticals, medical devices, artificial intelligence in healthcare, and material science. During the time he worked at Novartis, Dr. Mao also served as adjunct professor at UTA, there he created the “Healthcare Innovation and New Product Development” course to teach UT students new product development skills encompassing market analysis, product concept development, product design, mfg. process design and development, preclinical and clinical studies, regulatory approval, IP, business plan, project management, as well as experience of crossing innovation “valley of death” . Currently this class is brought to CCMU and taught at graduate student level. Dr. Mao has 15 patents, and 40 plus peer reviewed papers. He received his MBA from Carlson School of Business at University of Minnesota, PhD from UC Berkeley, MSc from Tsinghua University and BA from Peking University.
Joaquim Magalhães da Cunha
Joaquim Magalhães da Cunha, 61, a graduate computer engineer from University of Minho is the current CEO of Health Cluster Portugal (www.healthportugal.com), a hub for competitiveness in health whose objective is the promotion and implementation of initiatives and activities leading to the consolidation of a national cluster for competitiveness, innovation and technology with an international outlook, and to promote and foster cooperation between companies, organizations, universities and public entities with a market view in the economic areas related to health and to the improvement of health care.
A significant part of his professional career was dedicated to CASO - Consultores Associados de Organizações e Informática, Lda (www.caso.pt), a company that he founded in 1983 and has been its CEO. It is a consultancy and software business that integrates the knowledge and expertise in the fields of engineering, computing, management, economics and training. Over the past 10 years, the global investment associated to the projects where CASO has been involved accounts for more than 150 million Euros.
He was also founder of MinhoDigital SA, a regional cluster experience in the ICT sector, and Nanologic the first Portuguese company fully dedicated to the development and production of parts and tools for micro and nano technologies. From 2004 to 2006 he integrated the board of Pronefro – Produtos Nefrológicos, SA, a medical device company working on the haemodialysis sector.
