The European Commission (EC) successfully kicked off the Coronavirus Global Response pledging event on 4 May, which has mobilised EUR 7.4 billion from donors worldwide for the fight against coronavirus. The EU has made a significant contribution to this pledge with EUR 1 billion mobilised by Horizon 2020.

The Coronavirus Global Response Initiative aims to ensure the collaborative development and universal deployment of diagnostics, treatments and vaccines against coronavirus. It is a response to the call from the World Health Organization (WHO) and a group of health actors for a global collaboration for the accelerated development, production and equitable global access to new coronavirus essential health technologies.
